This year, we are proud to present a solo exhibition by Taiwanese artist Wu Chia Yun, featuring a compelling exploration of the essence and transformation of the photographic medium. The presentation will include her video work “darkness within darkness” alongside the debut of her new photographic series “Dust in the Room”, offering an immersive sensory experience that bridges the static and the moving, the virtual and the physical.

“darkness within darkness” is an experimental video that deconstructs digital footage into 24 frames per second, the standard film frame rate, and reconstructs the image through printing and scanning techniques. The result is a series of images freed from screens and projections, rendered instead on paper as vessels for time and motion—a visual echo that hovers between presence and absence. The “Dust in the Room” series captures imperceptible dust particles in an afternoon bedroom setting using large-format 4×5 film. Through digital scanning and image reconstruction, these minute elements are transformed into poetic, fluid compositions that disturb the quiet and emptiness beneath the surface of the everyday.

Wu Chia Yun has been a key artist in our program since 2019, known for her interdisciplinary approach that weaves together film, video, and still photography. We have witnessed her artistic language evolve and deepen over the years. She will be holding a solo exhibition at our gallery space this September, and her work will also be featured in the 2025 TAIPEI BIENNIAL this November. This marks her debut in Shanghai, and we warmly invite you to discover how her practice continues to respond to the fundamental themes of time, memory, and existence through a contemporary lens.
