Current Exhibition|“Drowned” Introduction
Wed Apr 13 10:00:00 2022
In “Drowned”, Tkachenko traveled through the countries of the former socialist bloc in search of the architecture of Soviet modernism. Most of them in the form of concrete were majestic, exaggerated, sci-fi futuristic, and with a strong utopian style. Tkachenko filmed these architectures with his camera. The photographs were then printed and rolled onto a rigid base, after which the architecture depicted in the photographs was cut out in separate fragments which were installed on the shoals of the Aral Sea. The architecture of Soviet modernism was an image of the communist future. Over time political utopias collapsed leaving behind the architecture of a failed future.
