UP Gallery is pleased to present Stalker at Work, a solo exhibition by multidisciplinary Indian artist Sameer Tawde, opening on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at 3:00 PM, with the artist in attendance. The exhibition will be on view through September 20, 2025.
A represented artist of UP Gallery since 2018, Tawde is widely recognized for his staged photography series Dialogues of an Introvert and Holy Boulevard, which playfully yet poignantly examine the surreal within everyday life and environmental issues humans encounter. While his previous projects have leaned strongly toward photography, Stalker at Work marks a significant shift in medium and focus—presenting a body of work centered on video-based installations, kinetic objects, and sculpture. Reflecting this evolution, the exhibition is featured as part of UP Gallery’s 2F Screening Room Program, dedicated to supporting experimental, time-based practices. Coinciding with this exhibition, Tawde also has video works on view at Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei (MoCA Taipei), as part of MoCA Video 2025, a yearlong program showcasing artists exploring issues of society, culture, and personal emotion through the moving image.
“In today’s interconnected world, surveillance is as omnipresent as air or water,” says Tawde. “It infiltrates our interactions, emotions, and decisions—often quietly, often without consent. Stalker at Work is a personal and creative response to this reality.” Tawde uses this exhibition at the 2F Screening Room to explore the pervasive theme of surveillance in contemporary life, drawing on theatricality, absurdity, and an undercurrent of psychological tension.
Through a series of sculptural interventions and moving images, Tawde dissects the uneasy intimacy of being observed—whether by institutions, technologies, or our own internalized gaze. His works blur the lines between humor and critique, absurdity and poignancy, prompting viewers to question the invisible architectures of control in our daily environments.
Stalker at Work continues UP Gallery’s mission to highlight bold, critically engaged practices that reflect on the conditions of contemporary life through innovative and interdisciplinary approaches.
