Hsinchu City Art Gallery’s 2026 Annual Thematic Exhibition, Yuri—Until We Touch Our Emotional Quadrants | Launch of UP Gallery’s Satellite Exhibition & Participation of Mia Liu

Fri May 29 10:00:00 2026

UP Gallery is honored to act as collaborating partner in Hsinchu City Art Gallery’s 2026 key exhibition, Yuri—Until We Touch Our Emotional Quadrants. During the exhibition period, the gallery presents a dedicated satellite venue, extending the exhibition’s inquiry into female emotionality, intimacy, and modes of viewing beyond the museum space and into the urban landscape.

Curated by Wang Yung-Lin and Lin Ying-Ying, the exhibition brings together artists from Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, and Canada to explore emotional relationships that exist between friendship, companionship, attachment, affection, and identification. Through photography, moving image, installation, and collaborative projects, the exhibition examines forms of intimacy that often resist fixed definitions yet remain deeply embedded within everyday life.

UP Gallery’s satellite venue expands the dialogue initiated by the main exhibition, creating an additional site for reflection on female subjectivity, emotional projection, and interpersonal connection. Together, the two venues invite visitors to navigate between institutional and urban spaces while engaging with the exhibition’s nuanced emotional narratives.

Among the participating artists is UP Gallery represented artist Mia Liu, whose practice investigates the materiality of paper, the spatial qualities of photographic images, and the ways photography can extend beyond the two-dimensional surface.

Her exhibited work, Aura: Light & Drawing (2022), layers traces of flashlight exposure with computer hand-drawn lines, creating a subtle dialogue between analogue light, digital gesture, and material surface. Through the contrasting textures of Bergger silver photographic paper and ILFORD smooth gloss photographic paper, as well as a sculptural framing structure, the work unfolds as a meditation on perception, memory, and emotional resonance. Oscillating between photography and drawing, materiality and digitality, the work reflects the exhibition’s broader exploration of fluid and unclassifiable forms of intimacy.

We warmly invite you to visit both Hsinchu City Art Gallery and UP Gallery’s satellite venue to experience how contemporary photographic practices can open new ways of perceiving emotional connection and shared experience.
