Summon Images: Yichia Liao’s solo exhibition
Time:2013.10.12(Sat.) 2:30pm Opening Reception
Venue:UP Gallery 1F
This year our artist Yichia Liao has experimented with a new concept in his works and we are proud to share it with you. Unlike past works, he has dived deeper into the new media world. New media praises interaction with viewers. In his solo exhibition this year Yichia Liao offers a chance for viewers to work with him and create. Viewers are encouraged to find their own special moments in life and share them with the artist.
Ideals and Concepts of “Summon Images”Flowing water like time plus layers of rocks that store memories, these two elements communicate and summons images and stories. Looking through pieces of memories, some are clear others might have already become blurry. Nevertheless, they all once existed before. We welcome you to join us on a journey to find those memories. The subject may vary for each participant. Hopefully, through the exchange of images, we can all indulge in a special visual and meaningful experience.
About the Artist
Yichia Liao (b. 1961)
Yichia Liao an artist that practices photography and installation art is a significant figure in the field of Taiwan’s contemporary art photography. Liao’s fascination with time since the age of four has been the main reason for becoming an artist and embracing photography, a medium that has the ability to capture, dissect, and manipulate time. His artistic practice surrounds the relationship between time and the universe. Each series he extracts a certain element of the world and probes its relationship with time. His early embracement of digital photography has enabled him to expand this ideology through digital manipulation. Known for his strikingly detailed and excessively high-resolution images he is often viewed as a contemporary pictorialist upon the first encounter. Having a vigorous background in analogue photography and experiences in the darkroom he is highly influenced by modernist values. Yet he adopts issues and conveys his works in a conceptual and critical manner, resulting in an inevitable tension of conceptual and (extravagantly beautiful) subjectivity that coexists in his works which have become his signature style. an artist that practices photography and installation art is a significant figure in the field of Taiwan’s contemporary art photography.
