Particiaption of 2019 PhotoLondon

Fri May 10 10:00:00 2020

UP Gallery is proud to announce that we will be participating in the 2019 edition of PhotoLondon. We are blessed to be one of the very few Asian galleries to exhibit at the fair. This is our next step after last year’s exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery in London. Now in its fifth year, PhotoLondon has established itself as one of the major leading lens-based art fairs in the world. We are excited to be exhibiting amongst the best galleries in the photography field and would be delighted if you could join us at Somerset House from May. 16-19

The gallery will be presenting a curated booth D12 that seeks to present artists’ works that are influenced by the Greater Chinese culture and highlight works that are innovative in the field of photography both in technique and concept. Wu Chi-tsung challenges the possibilities of Chinese Shan Shui and photomontage through his Cyano-Collage series. Cyano-Collage here acts as a substitute of ink and brush strokes used in traditional Chinese Shan Shui, combined with experimental photography to interpret the imagery of landscape in Eastern culture. A new form so rarely seen in image-making is conceived under his artistic practice. As for his Still Life series he explores the meaning of painting and sentiments of beauty’s role in contemporary art. Rather than returning to the form of painting he chooses to interpret these cherished memories through the appearance of moving images. On the other hand, Chen Rong-hui delves into the underlying social issues in China’s young individuals through Freezing Land with methods not only documentary but also demonstrate the power of social media and the communication modes of the younger generation in China. Through the app “Kuaishou” he creates a peculiar bond with the subjects he films and reveals a side of the lost” Chinese Dream” that is almost unknown to the world. These images shot with an 8 x 10 large format camera gives plasticity, quality and requires time to develop which aligns with his quest on exposing the stories in the northeast region of China.

We welcome you to come to join us in this event and for those who are not able to come we urge you to follow our social media and Artsy page for more information.
